Bribie Island 2015

expedition 4LowDrive goes to Bribie Island for a hot lap.

We were down in Brisbane on a grown ups shopping trip (no kids) and I penciled in a trip out to bribie for a look around.

The weather did not play nice but we weren't camping so why not check it out.

Bribie Island is attached to the mainland by a bridge at the southern end of the island and does away with the need for a ferry, a unique feature in the local island group (Fraser, Straddie, Coochie, Morton).

We travelled from south to north on the beach up to Fort Bribie which dispite 70+ years of mother nature beating the crap out of it, the fort still stands. I've read that the fort was originally well back from the coast line and now due to natural errosion it sits on the primary dune and will soon be on the beach itself. The last figures I heard was the dunes were retreating at 3 metres per year.

From the northern most drivable point, Caloundra is so close and it's remarkable that you could be on a beach that feels remote but within touching distance of the Sunshine Coast.

On our return to the southern end of the island we took the inland track which provides access to various picnic areas and a boat launch into Pumicstone Passage.

On the track must have seen 20+ signs "White Patch" this way. What was this white patch we were being directed too? We were never to find out as there was no sign to say we had arrived. There was just a sealed road leading back to the bridge at the end of the track

I guess the mystery will remain for another time.
