Fraser Island Easter 2015

This trip was 12 months in the planning and was our 1st major trip away that was purely 4wd focused.

Joining us on this trip was Shaun & Jillian White (sister, bro-in-law) and Wayne and Kay Wooler (mum and dad).

Vehicles were a Pajero, FJ Cruiser, and a BT50.

We weren't expedition 4LowDrive at this point  but the term 4lowdrive comes from my son Jack. I'm not sure how he came up with it but I love it.

We stayed in safari style permenant tent at Frasers on Cathedral Beach. At first I wasn't impressed at all but I soon snapped out of it and really enjoyed the surroundings. Hot showers, flushing toilets, camp kitchens and respectful campers. It was great.

The location of the campground placed us almost centre of the island which was perfect to allow us to explore.

Much to my disappointment there had been some rain on the island the week before which made the tracks fairly easy to get around on. Even the notorious Ngkala Rocks bypass was driven with relative ease. I was so looking forward to a hard struggle to reach Sandy Cape. Never mind, I'm sure I will get to experience it when its powder soft.

We saw just 1 dingo the entire time which was in stark contrast to my last trip to the island 20 years ago. Back then they travelled in packs and our camp was invaded every night. When fishing on the beach there would always be a furry sentinel not far away keeping a close eye on things.

We all made promises to ourselves to return to the island in 2016 and so far it looks like we can keep that promise.

I can't wait to return.
